The Book of Samuel: A Primer on Political Power

The Book of Samuel plays out at a time of revolutionary transformation in political theology. Political systems are indispensable to material and spiritual survival, but the compromises in exchange for this new found security are numerous, and subject the people to a new tyranny, that of their own government. Through studying the political calculations of Kings Saul and David, and the prophets Eli and Samuel, the course will elucidate timeless dimensions to the exercise of political power most relevant to analyzing politics in 2020 America.

Once a month, Hazzan Shoshi Levin Goldberg and the Rosh Hodesh group will join with the women’s Torah Study class at TIC to learn about the strong Jewish women of our tradition, and see how they still have much to teach us about our lives today.
